BODY TALE
Ballet of Difference

BODY TALE is a dance series created by five dance artists of Richard Siegal / Ballet of Difference am Schauspiel Köln. In collaboration with tanz.köln, the curators of Kolumba invited the dancers of the company to take up the museum space, to get inspired by its art and architecture, and to fill its rooms with dance. Stemming from the exhibition format »The subtle interplay between the I and the me« - Art and Choreography, the five artists – Black Pearl De Almeida, Mason Manning, Margarida Neto, Evan Supple and Long Zou – considered the idea of the body and what it can, and could potentially, reveal.

BODY TALE will be presented from June 10th to 13th 2021 during the opening hours of the museum. Please have a look at our current Corona regulations before. The detailed program as well as a publication compiled by Claudia Ortiz Arraiza in Kolumba's series of artists' booklets will be published.

Daily in the courtyard: the silence before the Name that marks it (Evan Supple)

The dance series is the result of months of choreographic exploration and research in Kolumba and the studios of Schauspiel Köln and offers different tales and diverse ways of moving through a story. Mason Manning creates a visual and vocal language to mediate the manipulations of an architectural endeavor. Margarida Neto plays and collaborates with Richard Tuttle’s art, bringing the art on the walls to life in a humorous alternate reality. Long Zou connects with the past, bringing it to the present in an ephemeral and touching adaptation of Michel Fokine’s »Dying Swan«. Evan Supple answers to a philosophical question of what comprises art with a video installation showing a rigorous dance solo. Black Pearl De Almeida takes up space where some realities have to be non-cooperative in order to assert their presence in an exclusionary world.
