MODUS & MAQAM (17. Sound Workshop)
Ars Choralis Coeln & guests
The music of the Orient and the European music of the Middle Ages are both modal, i.e. they have comparable and similar structures despite all their differences. The European modes, also called church keys, are accompanied by corresponding maqams. The common basis of both musical worlds is improvisation, which is therefore also the focus of the 17th Sound Workshop. In this way, a supposedly old music becomes a current music that is created in the here and now.
Since the two Cologne musicians Maria Jonas and Bassem Hawar have been working together, they have been pursuing this phenomenon and want to further explore their findings together with the fiddle player Susanne Ansorg in the sound workshop and experiment together with Ars Choralis Coeln. The afternoon in Kolumba will present the results of the workshop.
The usual museum admission fee applies.
