Visiting schools XII: »make school productive!«
When art meets school, new perspectives emerge: this year, too, we are opening our doors to a partner school, transforming the museum into a place for collaborative experimentation, creation and exhibition. This year’s collaboration is with the Leonardo-da-Vinci-Gymnasium in Cologne-Nippes. Together with the pupils – who are enthusiastically supported by teacher Pia Tönnesmann and other colleagues – we are developing formats that the young people design and perform themselves. This gives rise to creative responses to works in the current exhibition: amongst other things, visitors can look forward to a new interpretation of Victoria Bell’s ‘Flying Locomotive’ as well as an artistic response to Walter Schels’ Roncalli photo series.
The opening day on 27 June marks the start. From 12 noon onwards, interventions, performances and musical contributions will transform the museum into a vibrant stage for young voices and ideas. Under the title “make school productive!” the students will present their works in dialogue with the current annual exhibition “make the secrets productive" – Art in unreasonable times.
The diverse range of contributions will be on display at the museum until 6 July. This collaboration impressively demonstrates how schools and museums can work together to create new spaces for creativity, exchange and cultural participation – and how young people enrich the exhibition with their own questions, perspectives and forms of artistic expression.
