2011 Philipp Wewerka
20 April to 31 July 2011
Philipp Wewerka »Taurus« – Color drawings
Cabinet Exhibition
On 20 April, under the Taurus sign of the zodiac, an exhibition by the same name began with a show of drawings by Philipp Wewerka. Two years previously, his father, Stefan Wewerka, formerly a teacher at the Kölner Werkschule (Cologne School of Arts and Crafts) had shown his chair sculptures and other works in a show at Kolumba. With the brightly colored, yet constructively stringent, drawings by Philipp Wewerka, the unusual approach of this artist takes control of the museum. Trees set off a firework of colors. Airplanes become a heavenly event. Ships with thousands of rigidly marked windows that afford us no opportunity to look through remind us of trips we have made or dreamed about. Trains allow a glimpse into their perfectly empty or crowded compartments. Conveyed through technical vehicles of movement or else by words that always call for more words, and driving them out of the space of thought into the space of formulation and statement, the traveling done here leads into an immeasurable cosmos of the imagination. More than thirty drawings and the artist booklet published for the exhibition invite you to discover this world. The catalogue is available as a facsimile in the series of Kolumba-Artist booklets for bibliophiles (36 pages, four colors, edition of 500, € 10). Philipp Wewerka, born in 1965 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, lives in the Eifel region.
