Piano Recital: Dorrit Bauerecker
"Buch der Klänge" by Hans Otte

On 22 March 2012 Kolumba will be opening up its resonant spaces again for a concert. At 7:30 p.m., pianist Dorrit Bauerecker will be playing the twelve-part piano cycle Das Buch der Klänge, written between 1979 and 1982 by the composer, musician, author, and sound installation artist Hans Otte (1926-2007). As the longtime head of the music division of Radio Bremen (1959-1984), Otte promoted numerous contemporary compositions, presenting a forum in Germany for American music ranging from LaMonte Young to Terry Riley. Also with a view to his great role model John Cage, Hans Otte compiled more than 400 pages of music for Das Buch der Klänge, ultimately distilling from this a concentrated version, a 25-page composition. With Das Buch der Klänge, the listener is rediscovered as a partner to sounds and silence, as someone who, in the search for his world, longs to be at one with the sounds. (Hans Otte) Dorrit Bauerecker studied piano at the music academies in Hannover and Cologne with Prof. Pi-hsien Chen. She rounded out her classical studies with master courses with Prof. Peter Feuchtwanger, Prof. Konrad Elser as well as with studies in improvisation with Paulo Alvares. Playing both piano and accordion as a soloist and in highly different combinations, Dorrit Bauerecker has participated in numerous concert projects, music theater productions and inter-medial improvisation projects, among other things. Her dedication to the field of New Music has earned her performances in renowned festivals for contemporary music. Before the piano recital, there will be - as every Thursday at 6 p.m. - our one-hour table talk discussion.
