Reading Room
The reading room is for reflection. You can think about what you have already seen and study the short guide. In addition, further publications are available here parallel to each exhibition. The reading room is also a space for special mediation situations: from 2014 to 2015, it was the main philosophy seminar at the University of Cologne, and also served as a place to reflect on the questions raised by the Swiss artist duo Fischli/Weiss in their book of the same name in weekly discussions entitled “Findet mich das Glück” (Finding Happiness). Every Saturday(!) in 2016, actors from the Cologne ensemble read from their own selection of works (in cooperation with Schauspiel Köln). In 2023, the location itself became the title of a new series. In “Required Reading: ...or what I always wanted to read”, we read a book, an essay or an essay every month. The reading room becomes a place where we meet to exchange our thoughts and impressions on what we have read and to explore topics dealt with in the exhibition in greater depth. “Required Reading” always takes place on the second Thursday of the month, from 5.30 to 7 pm. The event is conceived by our guest curator Andreas Speer (Professor of Philosophy at the University of Cologne) and moderated by alternating guests. Admission is free. The prerequisite for participation is a willingness to read in advance.
