La Voix Off
La Voix Off
Augenblick und Stimme
From March 2021
The eye – The (mobile phone) camera points at an object. We notice on close inspection that: the picture is breathing. It keeps pace with the animated rhythm of the hand holding the camera and is thus connected to the body of the person who is shooting the film. He invites us with this gesture of his hand to stay close and share his gaze. Do you see? – The ear – A voice can now be heard. It is off-screen, and thus outside of the picture. The German term »Off-Stimme« borrows the English concept of ‘off’ as being elsewhere. Someone speaks and our ears follow his lips. We listen to his voice and hear words, breath, tonal colour, pitch and expression. Listening bridges the spatial gap and enables us to linger in the museum space ourselves, with our eyes closed. Do you hear? »La Voix Off« is related to the current exhibition »The Subtle Interplay between the I and the me – Art and Choreography«. This event takes as its starting point our body in its function as an organ of perception, revealing not only something about the artwork and the voice out there, but also about ourselves and the interaction between our bodies and the world. »La Voix Off – Augenblick und Stimme« will be broadcast at irregular intervals and released on our website.
