Hannah Villiger

Photoszene Festival 2021

Hannah Villiger (1951-1997) began exploring her body with the camera in the early 1980s. In a dialogue with herself - as a ‘little play between the I and the Me’ (Diary 1989) - she photographed herself with an instant camera. She enlarges these images and prints them on thin aluminium plates, which she constellates into blocks. With this return to herself, she pioneered the female artists of the 1990s and a self-confidently different way of seeing the body from a female perspective. Hannah Villiger's works are part of our current exhibition on ‘Art and Choreography’ (until 16 August 2021) and our contribution to Photoszene United 2021.
